Why do I need to insure?
Many of us don’t realise the value of the every day items carried in our briefcase / rucksack / handbag. It's only when something goes wrong and we have to replace these products that we understand the true value, both personally and financially of our every day gadgets.
Won’t I be covered under my Home Insurance Policy?
You may already have some cover if you have an existing Home Insurance policy and have taken out All Risks or Personal Possessions insurance away from home. Usually this will attract an additional premium and it is important to check whether you need to specify particular gadgets in order for the cover to be in force. Typically excesses charged on a home insurance policy will be greater than that charged under the Insure and Smile insurance policy and your cover may be different to that offered under Insure and Smile.
Won’t I be covered under my Travel Insurance policy?
You may have some cover for gadgets if you have a travel insurance policy in force and have requested cover for your personal effects and valuables. However it is unlikely to be as extensive as Insure and Smile e.g. you may find the maximum cover per gadget is much lower and the total amount of valuables covered will also include other items such as jewellery. In addition the excess is likely to be higher. Also your gadgets are unlikely to be covered for everyday usage in the UK. Do check with your travel insurers and/or your travel insurance policy if you’re not sure.
