Palm Pre for Christmas Release
UK network provider O2 confirmed on Tuesday that the Palm Pre, a new Smartphone which is expected to be the most serious contender to Apple’s iPhone, will hit the shops in time for Christmas later this year.
The Palm Pre will incorporate a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and a 3.1-inch touch screen facility. The Pre will triumph the iPhone by offering the capability to run several apps at once, something lacking from the current iPhone range. With all the expected Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, web browser, YouTube access, 8GB of memory and an app store for purchasing apps, the Pre looks to be like the first real contender to the iPhone crown.
More than 300,000 of the devices have been sold in the US alone since it was launched their last month. Telefonica, the Spanish parent company of O2, has secured exclusive rights to sell the phone in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain. Jon Rubinstein, Palm’s chairman, said: “Europe continues to be an important region for Palm, and we’re proud to work with O2 and Movistar to spread the excitement Palm Pre has already ignited in North America”.
