Reducted Cost of Texting From Europe
Under changes in the European rules, this summer you will be able to text your friends and family back home from as little as 9p, whilst you’re away in Europe.
The European Parliament has approved a recent legislation move to set a maximum cost of 9p per text for UK customers. Current rates can see text messages costing 41p each, despite research into the industry suggesting a cost will actually cost your provider 3p.
The new rules are set to come into practice on July 1st 2009, just in time for the holiday high-season. Caroline Flint, Europe Minister, said: “As a mum I know parents will be especially pleased that there will be absolutely no excuse for the kids not to keep in touch when travelling in Europe this summer.”
The EU introduced legislation two years ago, which drastically minimized the cost of making a phone call abroad from Europe, yet since then the cost of texting has remained relatively high, compared to that of other European countries.
