Google Maps includes Traffic
The Highways Agency has tied up with Google to present live traffic information as an overlap on Google Maps.
A new “traffic” button appeared a few days ago on Google Maps that instantly includes an overlay of traffic data pulled directly from the Highway Agency’s data centre. It includes colour-coded average speed data for motorways and A-roads making it easy to see jams and hot spots to avoid on your journey.
Green means it’s moving fine, yellow means it’s averaging 30mph and red means it is moving at a rush hour crawl pace.
“I’m delighted that we are the first country in Europe to work with Google and use our information for the benefit of road users across the country,” said Denise Plumpton from the Highways Agency. “We look forward to working with other partners in the future,” she added.
