Nintendo DS-i on its way
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced the latest addition to the Nintendo DS family at the recent Nintendo Media Summit in Japan. Hailed as the new handheld within even slicker design and more features than the extremely popular Nintendo DS Lite – the Nintendo DS-i was officially unveiled.
Finally putting pay to all the speculation in the press, the Nintendo DS-i features many of the upgrades that had been speculated:-
The DS-i is marginally slimmer than the DS and comes complete with two 3.25 inch screens
The DS-i features a pair of cameras. They are 0.3 megapixel resolution; one is located on the inside and one on the outside. Both have a 640×480 resolution and thanks to these cameras, the DSi has different camera and audio functions delivering new and innovative gameplay.
An extra SD card slot has been added, which is compatible with the Wii Photo Channel. It can also be used to play MP3s on the go.
Nintendo will also provide access to a dedicated Nintendo DS Store, which will be selling “Nintendo DS Ware”, presumably nearly identical to the current WiiWare service.
And finally, there will be a web browser built into the device itself.

Shortly after the launch rumours spread that the handheld would be region-locked – much to the disappointment of the gaming community.
Nintendo were quick to officially reply to these rumours – but also confirm that the Nintendo DS-i will be region-locked when it is released in Japan in November and early in 2009 for Europe.
Don’t forget the new DS-i will be covered by Insure and Smile’s Gadget Insurance – giving you full piece of mind when using your new games console.
